Buçaco Forest is a magical place - a 16th century monastic retreat isolated from the rest of the world.
With its wide expanse of golden sands in striking contrast to the black rock of the surrounding cliffs, Pedra do Ouro Beach is a site of great natural beauty enhanced by the abandoned windmill perched at its northern end.
With its long stretch of sand forming a bay shape surrounded by tree-covered cliffs, Polvoeira Beach is of stunning beauty. The brave of heart can get the best views by heading up the rock formation that separates this Beach from its neighbour Paredes da Vitória Beach to the north. However, more commonly used to get from one to the other is the road running parallel to the coast through a forest before ending in an amply sized car park. From here, on clear days, the coastline can be seen winding its long way southwards.
Large and enclosed by tall cliffs, Água de Madeiros Beach has a full range of services and facilities including a bar and restaurant in addition to horse rides through the surrounding pine forest. The sheltered part of the Beach is enriched by the fabulous limestone sedimentary strata as well as a small river, ideal for children to play in.
